EN 16931 (European standard) · Error: the invoice is rejected

BR-CO-26 The seller can't be identified: no ID, registration or VAT number

What it means

So that the buyer's system can recognise the supplier automatically, the invoice needs at least one of: a seller identifier (BT-29), a legal registration number (BT-30) or a VAT number (BT-31). This invoice has none of them.

Common causes

  • The seller's company number and VAT number are not filled in the invoicing software's company settings.
  • The seller is not VAT-registered (for example a small business) and no company number was entered instead.
  • The numbers are printed in a free-text note or logo, not in the structured fields.

How to fix it

Enter the company registration number (and the VAT number, if there is one) in the company settings of the invoicing software, so it is placed in the seller fields.

Who fixes it: The sender, in its own company settings.
