Hermes alternatives

Hermes, the Belgian government's free platform for sending structured e-invoices, no longer exists. According to the FPS Finance, Hermes was shut down on 17 December 2025: documents can no longer be sent or received through it [1]. Already in 2025 the government wrote that Hermes would no longer be promoted as long as the market offered sufficient, affordable solutions [2].

Is there a government successor? No. The government deliberately chose a market-driven approach with no central government tool [3].

What did you use Hermes for?

Hermes was mainly a web portal where you typed in an invoice and sent it over Peppol. If you want something similar, these are the options (alphabetical, prices as stated by the vendors):

What you want Examples Price
Free, type in an invoice and send it Accountable (mobile app), ING Invoice Manager (ING clients), onFact (3 invoices/month), Odoo (one app free) EUR 0, with limits: see free Peppol options
An access point's web portal Peppol Box, Peppyrus Peppol Box from EUR 5/month excl. VAT; Peppyrus free up to 100 messages/month from 1 November 2026
Have your existing invoice converted Doccle (DocclePro), e-invoice.be EUR 4/month excl. VAT; EUR 0.25 per invoice
A full invoicing tool Billit, Teamleader One, Lucy from EUR 6.90/month, EUR 99/year, EUR 4/month

Sources and full terms are on Peppol prices and the profile pages.

Invoicing public authorities?

For invoices to Belgian public authorities (B2G) there is still a government channel: the Mercurius portal lets you manually issue invoices and credit notes to authorities that aren't equipped yet, and track their processing [4]. The government stresses that this portal function will be needed less and less and recommends getting your own e-invoicing tool [4]. Mercurius can't be used for invoices to businesses.

Check your Peppol registration

Was your business registered on Peppol through Hermes? Check where your enterprise number points today with the Peppol ID lookup. Each Peppol ID can only be registered with one address book (SMP) at a time [5], so your new provider must hold your registration. If an old or unknown provider shows up, read check your Peppol registration.

Your old Hermes invoices

Did you send or receive invoices through Hermes? The obligation to keep invoices still applies after Hermes ended. Make sure you have copies of the invoice files in your own archive.

Choose in three steps

  1. Work out whether you must send, receive or both: who must use Peppol.
  2. Count your invoices per month. Below 3–5 invoices there are free plans; above that, a paid plan is often easier.
  3. Ask your accountant which tool is easiest for them to receive from.

Checked on 6 October 2026. The Hermes pages have been removed from einvoice.belgium.be, so we link to archived copies of the official FAQ. Not a recommendation.
