Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 · Error: the invoice is rejected

PEPPOL-EN16931-R061 Direct debit without a mandate reference

What it means

The payment means code is direct debit (49, or 59 for SEPA direct debit). Then the invoice must include the mandate reference (BT-89), so the buyer's bank can match the collection. It is missing.

Common causes

  • The customer's direct-debit mandate ID is not stored in the customer record.
  • Direct debit is set as the payment means by default, also for customers without a mandate.
  • The mandate reference is written in a note instead of the payment fields.

How to fix it

Add the mandate reference to the customer's payment details, or choose another payment means (for example credit transfer) if there is no mandate.

Who fixes it: The sender, in the customer's payment settings.
