Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 · Error: the invoice is rejected

PEPPOL-COMMON-R040 A GLN (scheme 0088) has an invalid format or check digit

What it means

An ID marked with scheme 0088 is a GS1 Global Location Number (GLN). It may contain only digits, and its last digit must be the correct GS1 check digit. The ID on this invoice fails that check.

Common causes

  • A digit is mistyped or missing.
  • Spaces, dashes or letters inside the number.
  • Another kind of number (such as a VAT or company number) is sent with scheme 0088.

How to fix it

Copy the GLN exactly as issued by GS1 or by the buyer, digits only. If the ID is not a GLN, use the scheme code that matches it.

Who fixes it: Whoever stores the ID: the sender for its own GLN, or the sender's customer record for the buyer's GLN.
