Open an XRechnung: free XRechnung and ZUGFeRD viewer, no upload
The file never leaves your browser: it is opened and shown on your device only.
Install the app. Open e-invoice files straight from your computer or phone, also offline. Files stay on your device.
Use offline. Keep the viewer on this device so it also works without a connection. Your browser saves a copy of our pages and the viewer; turn it off to remove the copy. Invoice files are never uploaded.
Got an XRechnung file and only see code? Drop the file (.xml) or the ZUGFeRD PDF into the box above. The viewer shows the invoice as a readable document, right in your browser.
What it opens
- XRechnung in both syntaxes (UBL and CII), including credit notes
- ZUGFeRD / Factur-X: the embedded XML is read from the PDF and rendered
- Peppol BIS invoices (UBL), e.g. from suppliers in Belgium or the Netherlands
ZUGFeRD 1.0 is not supported; you'll see a notice if you open one.
Why render the XML and not just the PDF?
For hybrid formats such as ZUGFeRD, the structured XML part now prevails. If the PDF image and the XML data differ, the XML counts [1]. The Federal Ministry of Finance therefore recommends rendering the XML part yourself [1]. An XRechnung contains no PDF at all, so without a viewer people can't read it [1].
How it works
Rendering is based on KoSIT's official XRechnung visualisation, published as open source [2]. It runs entirely in
your browser; the page is technically barred from sending files to any server (Content Security Policy
connect-src 'self'). The source code is public. After the first load the viewer also works offline.
Note: the viewer only displays invoices. It doesn't create, edit or store them. The original is your XML file; keep it unchanged for eight years [1].
Alternatives
Several free viewers exist; the ministry points to many free offers [1]. The tax administration runs its own e-invoice viewer on ELSTER [3][1]. Our viewer runs entirely locally: the file never leaves your computer. Open-source desktop viewers such as Quba also run locally [4].
FAQ
Is it free? Yes, with no sign-up and no limits.
Does it check whether the invoice is valid? Not yet. A validator (EN 16931 and XRechnung rules) is planned.
I only get e-invoices now. Do I need software? Not to read them. If you handle many invoices, software with e-invoice import helps. See receiving e-invoices, free options and the software comparison.
How can I open a ZUGFeRD file? A ZUGFeRD invoice is a PDF and opens normally. The viewer shows the XML data inside it, which is what legally counts: drop the PDF into the box above [1].
Why will I get more XRechnungen from 2027? Suppliers with prior-year turnover above €800,000 must issue e-invoices from 1 January 2027, everyone else from 2028 [1]. Details: e-invoicing mandate 2027.
Do I have to issue e-invoices myself? That depends on your turnover: mandate checker 2027/2028.
Can I convert a PDF into an XRechnung? Not by converting the file alone; the data must be structured. The options are on convert PDF to XRechnung.
